CHAPTER 5: Darkness surfacing while revisiting old wounds.
"Father said nothing truly dies. Maybe those we care about never stop loving us from beyond the grave." Chel said with a smile. "I think that's how he told it to me before anyway."
Stella smiled and couldn't help but admire her little problem always appearing to look on the brighter side of any situation. Goth and Vera were going to raise a great bat indeed. NOT that she cared or anything. Chel was still her little problem after all. Even though her heart kept scolding the ignorant Silverwing. Why was hating someone so innocent so young hard to do? Was Goth thinking the same way about her when he found her? When they first found each other?
"Hey maybe they like watching you and Father argue as well. You two fight over the weirdest things." Chel giggled as she tightened her hug on the Silverwing. "Like the time you two argued over each others' bands to see who's hasd the most battle scratches on it or the time...."
Stella pouted frowning as her little problem continued on and on with each story. Her strong dislike for the little Vampyrum swiftly returning again.
"Where's the lightning when you need it?" Stella sighed as she continued flying past more loose vines and branches. Maybe seeing Axel would calm her a bit? His smile usually did the trick. Her Vampyrum stud.
The wounded Banished foot soldier flew onward bumping into branches and vines as his vision started to blur. Large puncture wounds on his neck and several deep claw marks around his chest began to take their toll on the soldier's health. His suspicions were gravely correct. He was slowly dying just like the jaguar he and his fallen comrade had discovered.
Previously when the Banished foot soldier turned at the sound of a loud thud he was horrified to see his comrade completely white as a full moon completely drained of life. He heard several voices laughing before he was ambushed from the unknown attackers from behind. He managed to fight his way out of his would- be assailants, but not before noticing how severe his wounds really were.
"Esos malditos monstrous." The Banished Foot soldier cursed as he fell from the sky, the pain of his wounds feeling too unbearable to deal with any longer, and fell into the Banished's territory collapsing face first on a pile of leaves.
"Dammit. For all I know I probably led those fuckers here." The Vampyrum cursed again as he tried to stand up stumbling back down on his knees. He was exhausted but refused to give in to death's embrace and begun to crawl to his colony's home.
The injured Banished was quickly noticed by several of his fellow soldiers and quickly taken to their chief upon the dying bat's request. He refused to have died in vain warning his colony about this new threat was the least he could do.
Near the border of the Banished's territory several soldiers fell onto the ground wounded as a black blur swiftly made its way deeper into their homeland, a cruel laugh following afterwards.
"Disfruta la luz del día porque las cosas se van a poner oscuro."
After a good hunt outside their territory, Axel roosted above a very large and wide hollow tree he and a handful of vampyrum called home, most of King Goth's royal army and guards to be exact, and bared his fangs when he noticed someone appearing to be attacking his lover from behind her back.
'Mi CORAZON! HOLD ON I'M ON MY WAY!"
Axel flew frantic dodging every branch and little twig with ease. He wasn't going to lose his heart today or ever.
Stella stopped mid-flight telling her little problem to hold on to her tightly before Axel bumped right into her knocking them onto a branch.
"Stella! Estas bien? Watch out! There was...was?...uhm...."
Axel noticed a little Vampyrum shaking underneath his lover's wing and backed away slowly noticing Stella glaring straight at him. He done goofed!
"Er...Sorry about that. I was--- From far away it looked como esa Senorita--- Grande. I guess I just got all worried over nothing." He replied with a very embarrassed grin on his face.
Chel clung tighter onto the annoyed Silverwing afraid to even glance up at the apologetic Vampyrum.
"My hero." Stella said sarcastically. Chel here was just about to hug me to death if you hadn't of screamed bloody murder to rescue me from such a terrible fate.
Axel lowered his ears feeling like a pendejo for upsetting his lover and scaring a child.
"Sorry Lil' Senorita. I didn't mean to frighten you. Perdon por mis actiones. I thought someone was attacking mi Corazon."
Chel's ears perked up faintly but vividly remembering that familiar voice coming from the male vampyrum and slowly turned to him as a name popped on the the tip of her tongue.
Stella busted out laughing hard as she watched Axel's worried expression slowly turn into an annoyed frown glaring down at the little vampyrum.
"No Lil' Senorita. Mi nombre es Axel!"
"No it's Tonto." Chel said giggling a little as she met her gaze with him, a huge smile on her face.
Stella continued to laugh knowing full well her lover loathed that nickname Goth gave him since their first encounter so long ago.
Axel made a fist but tried to hide his frustration at the little vampyrum and hid his anger with a forced smile.
"No. Me llamo Axel. Me llamo Axel!!!" He protested.
Axel sighed in defeat lowering his head in shame. Children were cruel little monsters weren't they.
"I can see where she got the ignorance from. That's for sure." He stated knowing the child would probably never call him by his true name.
"It's okay my pendejo." Stella teased at her enraging lover pulling on his beard a little then pecking a quick kiss on his lips.
Chel chuckled at the Vampyrum's sudden joyous dopey facial expression. Adults were so weird.
"So what's with the kid?" Axel asked as he noticed Chel playing with his wings tugging at the ends. "I thought you'd never ever want to do anything with their kid?" He whispered in his lover's ear.
"That hasn't changed believe me." Stella whispered back feeling she was somewhat forcing herself to believe her words as well. "It's a long long story..."
Chel's stomach started to rumble making her hide underneath Stella's wings feeling very embarrassed.
"Hungry aren't ya'? Well we can talk inside. My Dad finished plucking a parrot a while ago. I'm sure he'd be glad to see a new face around here." Axel said playfully rubbing the little vampyrum's head.
"You sure your Father won't mind me visiting?" Stella asked doubtful.
"Mi Corazon. I keep telling you he doesn't mind your company." Axel said placing a hand on her shoulder. "He's just un... un poco irritado that he doesn't have any grand children yet." He chuckled lightly scratching the back of his head.
"Chel you have my permission to eat me." Stella said glaring at her lover as she plaed her wing in front of the confused little vampyrum. "Just start with---"
"Ay Little Lady. Calmese! Calmese!" Axel said pulling his annoyed mate closer to him. "You know my father likes messing around. He's just really ready to be an abuelo. He even found a room for---"
Stella placed her hand over her lover's mouth and motioned her little problem to fly down at the entrance of the hollow tree below them since it was so close.
Chel peered down at the empty entrance making sure no one was there to catch her off guard before she flew down.
"Not bad for a kid." Axel commented.
"Axel, I already have a big 'little problem' with me today. Please don't add on to it. I really need you by my side right now. I'm already scared of losing my bond with Goth and Vera. Do I have to lose you too?" Stella said wrapping her lover's wings around her, resting her head on his chest afterwards.
"Silly Little Lady." Axel replied back as he nuzzled his cheek against hers. "You're not losing anyone especially not me. You're my Corazon and last I checked I need my heart to live another day because it means I'll get to see your smile."
"How long did it take you to come up with that one?" Stella joked smiling as she looked up at her lover's charming blue eyes.
Axel raised Stella's chin and planted a quick kiss against her lips before turning back and noticing Chel tugging on his wings. Goth trained this little kid to ruin his happiness very well the Banished concurred. Can't he get a break?
"Todo bein Lil' Senorita?"
"Didn't I tell you to start walking on ahead when you got there? Axel said it was safe." Stella added irritated at her little problem ruining their tender moment. "What's wrong?"
"There were strangers in there." Chel said hiding underneath the Stella's wing. "I didn't feel comfortable with all those eyes staring down at me. I'm sorry."
Axel chuckled before lightly patting the little vampyrum's head. There was no threat here.
"We rarely get any visitors from the royal family." Axel grinned. "My colony won't harm their kingdom's princess.Trust me."
"I trust Stella." Chel replied as she held onto the Silverwing's hand. "Father said she could kick anyone's butt."
"Let's go visit your...uhm Tio." Stella said as she flew down with her little problem and started walking towards the entrance before Chel embarrassed her even more. "We can't keep him waiting."
Axel crossed his wings smirking as he watched them both enter inside the hollow tree.
"We'll make great parents one day." He told himself as he followed behind.
Stella looked back at her lover and gave him a death glare.
"Que?" Axel shrugged. "We will won't we mi Corazon?"
Stella just sighed in annoyance and glanced around the lightly lit hollow tree noticing some familiar and new faces of vampyrum since the last time she had paid a visit to Hell's territory.
Even though she proved her worth and earned most of their respect Stella still felt a little uneasy around the cannibal bats. Not because of the size difference or the meat eating part, but because she was horrible at starting or keeping a conversation going when approached by one of them.
Chel grabbed onto Stella's hand as they continued onward deeper in the hollow tree, feeling a bit frightened and clung close to her Silverwing.
Axel couldn't help but smile at such a heart warming bonding moment while Stella on the other hand kept finding it harder and tougher to loathe her little problem. Her little claws were so adorable.
Stella noticed her little problem shaking and scooped her up carrying her knowing full well if something happened to the little vampyrum Chel's parents would be very very pissed. That and she dared not to find out what evil twisted punishment Goth would come up with.
"Rip out my heart and share it with the rest of the colony probably."
Axel noticed both of the females shaking in fear.
"Must be a family bonding moment or something?" he shrugged.
A loud eerie crunching sound echoed the entire hallway seconds later. Stella and Chel both screamed and held onto each other as they heard another crunching noise up ahead revealing a spacious hollowed out room with dim lights protruding through the cracks adding to its spookiness.
"Who is that?" Stella asked huddling closer to Axel as she noticed a distorted figure in the shadows.
"Relax you two." Axel stated as he pointed to the figure. "Just my dad is all... being really annoying." he murmured.
Stella covered a wing over her little problem when she looked closer at the roosting vampyrum noticing Hell munch on a small bat's rib cage before their eyes met. Talk about awkward.
Hell wiped some blood off his and gave Axel a quick glare before he began to speak.
"You chose to visit al peor de los tiempos, Senorita. Esta estupida parasito had it coming. Barging in uninvited. How rude." He said tossing a rugged half chewed bat wing near them.
Stella took a step back and tightened her hold on Chel not sure if the young Vampyrum was used to seeing this kind of gore. Knowing Goth on the other hand she might of seen worse. Not worth finding out though that's for sure.
Everyone seemed taken aback as the dismantled remains of the bat started to wither away into piles of what seemed like ash.
Hell swiftly wiped his tongue seeming disgusted by what he saw. He could taste the ash in his mouth and that meirda was too spicy.
"Esos malditos Vampiros. Annoying little pests." Hell said as he flew down and landed near Stella and his son, his gaze never leaving the Silverwing. "Don't you agree Muchacha?"
"That was a vampire bat? It can't be. They've been extinct for hundreds of years, Dad." Axel asked stunned. "They're back?"
Stella knew full well where that vampire bat came from and cursed under her breath hoping it was just a fluke. After Goth went to the underworld to rescue her she thought that they would be safe from Cama Zotz and she would never ever have to see such monsters ever again. Could she be wrong?
"It didn't suffer did it?" a squeaky voice coming from cover of Stella's wings asked.
"Arranque su corazon en el momento en que entro aqui. Quick and painless. I assure you Stella." Hell said wondering why the Silverwing's voice had changed.
Stella frowned at the Vampyrum's comment and her lover's chuckle wasn't helping.
"Our scouts have kept finding many animals completely drained of their sangre. Many more of those pests must be out there. I already sent word to Goth but as for you Senorita... You should of stayed home for your safety."
Axel frowned and crossed his arms after hearing his father's last comment.
"I can protect myself just fine thank you very much." Stella said as she stood her ground.
There was no way the Silverwing was going to show any fear while her little problem was with her. Stella wouldn't give her the satisfaction.
"Strong and brave." Stella repeated in her mind never losing sight of Hell as their eyes locked with each other.
Hell found the Silverwing's intimidation rather surprising to say the least. The thought of life draining bats in their territory was enough to keep the strong general at bay and constant watch increased in case they attacked again. He had to remember though, the Silverwing and Goth both faced these demons before so it wasn't something new to them.
Hell scowled and turned to his son before speaking to him rather disappointed.
"Hijo. Por que es que ella ya no tiene miedo de mi? Como puedo tener mi diversion ahora?" The general pouted crossing his arms together.
"Le dije todo Dad." Axel replied patting his father behind the back and motioning Stella to unveil their guest from the safety of her wings. "Y ella no vino a visitarnos solo."
Chel looked up at the bright furred Vampyrum and smiled at him.
"Tio Heck? Hijo. Quien es esta nina y quien se llama Heck?" Hell asked noticing the little vampyrum waving at him and waved back very confused at what was going on. First vampire bats and now a new face? What day is it?
Hell got a little closer to the child to Stella's discomfort and tried to recognize the pup's scent but could not make out whom it reminded him of.
Hell swiftly pulled his son closer to him.
"You adopted?" Hell whispered in his son's ear. "Usted tiene problemas alla abajo?" He asked concerned.
Stella's ears picked up that last question being very grateful to Goth for forcing her to learn Spanish and tried her hardest not to burst out laughing.
Axel was taken aback his skin turning deep red underneath his bristled up fur.
"QUE?" Axel snapped back angered by such a ludicrous question. "Pa esa es la hija del cabron y de Vera! Tu no puede ver? The hair... las alas... come on she looks exactly like Goth."
Hell pulled on his beard deep in thought as he really took a good look at the little vampyrum doubt slowly forming on his face before he looked back at his son with a sarcastic grin.
"How are you so sure esta nina es de el y no era de ese estupido Jaro---"
A small rock suddenly smacked itself across the Chief General's jaw causing Hell to curse out many words in his native tongue as he rubbed his jaw before glaring down at Chel who held another rock in her hand ready to throw it at him.
Stella hugged Chel tightly and faintly smiled as she confiscated the rock from her little problem chuckling a bit at the annoyed adult.
"Sorry about that... she... just... she's just..."
"Ah just like her father. Sneaky little senorita aren't ya'." Hell chuckled before he grabbed and embraced the happy little pup away from the surprised Silverwing. "Perdon Senorita I haven't seen you since you were muy tiny. Dios mio have you grown. Mira esos dientes de un guerro. A fine killer you'll be un dia."
Stella sighed in relief remembering Hell loved a good joke every now and then.
"But where did she get those rocks from? We're in a tree." She pondered.
After moments of watching her little problem Stella couldn't help but feel somewhat ousted out as she watched Hell and Chel talk and laugh to one another as if they've known each other for years. It bugged her very much. The old memories of not belonging with them resurfacing in in her mind.
"Was this little vampyrum of hers a blessing from Nocturna or was her little problem actually a curse from that damned Cama Zotz here to take all those she held dear only to be tossed aside like scraps in the end?" Stella begun to wonder as she felt her heart beat spike up a bit.
"What am I thinking?" Stella thought to herself. "She's just an innocent child, who asks way to many questions and finds me interesting for some reason. What am I blaming her exactly?"
Axel turned and noticed Stella getting sad for some reason, nudging her with his elbow asking if everything was alright.
Stella gave him a fake smile and a thumbs up as a reply asking if he could drop the subject knowing full well he wouldn't.
Curiosity was in her lover's nature. It would usually get them in some deep guano but they always overcame those shenanigans. That damn sexy son of a cannibalistic bat always wanting to make her happy. How she loved him. Least her little problem wouldn't take him away from her. Their bond was strong and everlasting.
Axel wrapped his wings around his lover and rested his head on top of hers and let out a sigh.
"I know what you're gonna say so don't say it." Stella said as she watched Hell playfully throw Chel up in the air.
"She's not what you made her out to be you know." Axel remarked with a smile. "I really doubt that little kid is trying to ruin your life as you so put it."
"It's all part of her plan, Axel." Stella growled back glaring up at her lover. "Chel wants me out of the picture. I just know it."
"You're funny mi Corazon. The way I see it my Silverwing is a little jealous and doesn't want to share her family with another sibl---"
Stella elbowed her lover in the stomach causing him to release his embrace on her and snarled down at him as he rubbed his stomach.
"Mi Corazon? what's---"
"LISTEN REALLY GOOD AXEL. THAT CANNIBAL OVER THERE IS NO SISTER OF MINE. Deal or no deal Goth can have her. Chel wins. I'M DONE!" Stella yelled angrily flying off not bothering to notice if her little problem or Hell heard her or not. At this point she didn't care.
Axel and Hell stood speechless as they saw the Silverwing take off.
Tears began to fall from the little vampyrum before she buried her face in her uncle's mane sniffling a bit.
Axel stood up and lowered his ears. He just had to push her over the edge and in front of half the colony to make things even worse.
"No se que paso Mijo but remind me not to get on your Muchacha's bad side." Hell told his son still in shock that such a small bat could produce a menacing loud voice. "You still sure you want her as a mate?"
Axel ignored his father's comment then went up to the little vampyrum and placed a hand on her shoulder grasping her gently. He truly felt terrible.
Chel looked back at the young adult and asked him why he hasn't gone after Stella. Bad bats were in the area weren't they?
"Senorita, you must know Stella didn't mean anything she said. She's just... un poco jealous de usted. Please don't cry anymore." Axel pleaded before he flew after his lover. "Pa, keep her safe por favor. We'll be back."
"I guess my chances of being an abuelo dropped even more in the dark abyss." Hell said sadly before he gave his full attention back to the young Vampyrum who continued weeping. "Y here I thought it was going to be a great day for all of us." he added rubbing the back of his head unsure how to cheer up the child. "That Stella is just like Goth, Nina. Causing nothing but trouble."
Chel wiped her eyes and shook her head at his last comment.
"Don't say that about Stella or Papa, Tio. Please." Chel murmured as she wiped her eyes still sniffling a little. She was hurt by her Silverwing's words but even still. "Tia Flora wouldn't like it if you bad mouthed your familia like that would she?"
Hell seemed rather shocked Goth would even mention his late cousin, Hell's mate, Flora to the pup and simply smiled down at the young Vampyrum wiping her tears away.
"Your Tia would probably force nasty fruit down my throat." He chuckled. "what else did your Padre say about her?" Hell asked curiously. He missed his Flora very much. It felt pleasing knowing her spirit was being kept alive to the new generation.
"Stella told me all about her not my father." Chel said as she glanced back at the entrance wondering if her Silverwing was alright.
"Your Tia would tell me we should fly after her and talk with her." Hell said as he placed the little vampyrum on his back and took flight, a few guards following behind them.
"Gracias Tio Heck."
"Es Tio Hell! Por que censurar mi nombre?"
In the density of the fauna three small but slightly taller than Stella black furred bats watched from the shadows as Stella flew right past them.
Each bat looked at one another nodding and agreeing with each other, malicious grins forming on their faces. Their sharp set of fangs giving away to their sinister intentions.
"Puedo matarla ahora? Estoy realmente hambriento! Ese gato grande no me llenan por nada." The fat navy blue maned vampire bat of the three asked dropping a small bird carcass aside. "Ella se ve tan delicioso!" His mouth watered.
The skinny dark green maned female vampire bat of the three snarled at him before slapping him hard against the face before she spoke.
"Si la matas tendra que responder ante el Jefe, Idiota!"
"Nuestras ordenes eran claras, Deglotoneri. Capturar los... dos traidores y... llevarlos directamente al Jefe." the curvy dark brown maned female vampire bat of the three yawned seemingly bored.
"Depereza! Deglotoneri! Terminemos con esto ya! Esta luz esta empezando a molestar mi. Pinche Sol." the skinny dark green maned female vampire bat protested to her collegues as she took flight. "Vamonos!"
"No seas tan cojo, Denvidia." Depereza yawned as she too took to the sky. "Solo debemos tomar nuestro tiempo... La nina no es una amenaza... para nosotros tres. Relajarse, Denvidia."
"Quieres que el Jefe nos castiga?" Deglotoneri asked shocked his colleague would even say such a thing.
Their Jefe wasn't the type to take failure kindly. His missing chunks of fur and scars around his body were proof of that.
"Tenemos que tener una mente clara y un plan. Eso es todo lo que digo." Depereza said with a half scowl.
"Que tienes en mente entonces? Denvidia asked glaring at the grinning bat.
Deglotoneri's ears perked up then sniffed the air and turned to see Axel headed their way and licked his lips chuckling a little.
"Utilizamos cebo vivo." Depereza answered with her lazy grin.
"Cualquier cosa para mantenerse despierto, huh?" Denvidia remarked amused by her colleague's plan. "Muy bien! Preparse para saltar sobre el, Deglotoneri." She said motioning the fat bat to get in place as the young adult Vampyrum flew closer to them.
"STELLA!!!" Axel yelled losing sight of his lover as he tried to speed up to her. "I'll give that cabron this much credit: Those flying lessons surely paid off. Mi---"
Axel suddenly found himself slammed hard against a tree. The impact knocking the breath out of him for a second and landed face first on a branch.
"Que? What ... was... that?" Axel asked as he groaned from the pain on his sides.
Axel soon bared his fangs as a fat small bat close to Stella's height flew down in front of him, cringing a bit when the stranger licked his lips at him.
"Puedo ver que eras capaz de ponerse de pie." Deglotoneri said with a devious smirk. "Su sangre debe tener buen sabor."
"Sangre?" Axel muttered struggling to keep his balance standing up the pain on his sides worsening. "Tu eres uno de ellos? Murcielago Vampiro?!"
"Buen observacion, Chico." Depereza said as she flew down landing beside the fat bat clapping really slowly at the Vampyrum's discovery.
"Quien eres tu? Que es lo que quieres de mi?" Axel asked harshly as he analyzed the two small bats sure of himself he could still take them on even with his injuries.
"Nuestros nombres no son importantes, Chico." Depereza remarked as she revealed a long and sharp claw at her prey.
Axel backed away slowly and noticed another vampire bat sitting on his shoulder, questioning how he didn't feel the bat's weight on him before, and slashed a claw at her.
Denvidia dodged the young adult's pathetic attack and landed beside her colleagues, a wry grin forming on her face.
"Nosotros simplemente quieren pasar un buen rato." Depereza stated as she suddenly appeared in front of the stunned vampyrum and dug her long sharp claw in his chest careful not to damage any vital organs. "Es necesario dormir primero." She said as she watched Deglotoneri kick the Vampyrum against the face. "Lo siento."
Before Axel blacked out he was able to tear a chunk of Depereza's left ear with a last attempt of retaliation surprising the three bats.
"Un guerrero en el final." Denvidia said somewhat amused studying the young adult's face. "Ay, si no se muere puedo mantenerlo?" She asked breathing in Axel's sent. His scent smelled nice.
"No importa." Depereza answered unfazed by her mild injury motioning Deglotoneri to go ahead and carry their captive."Ahora nuestro plan puede entrar en movimiento sin ningun tipo de preocupacion." she sighed as she took flight to the direction the Silverwing had gone.
Denvidia helped move the unconscious Vampyrum onto Deglotoneri's back and warned him not to take a 'sample' of her new juguete before they took off after their true prey.
"Stella." Axel muttered weakly. "I'm sorry... Mi Corazon..."
